why "baby ziggy"

we called the baby not yet born "baby ziggy". we got some misguided idea that once the egg was fertilized and started dividing, it was called a zygote. since we found out that I was pregnant only two weeks along, we figured that the baby couldn't be more than a zygote at that point and started calling him or her "baby ziggy". the girls liked the nickname, too, and created cards and letters addressed to the as-yet unborn baby ("we love you baby ziggy!" - so cute)

when we were at the hospital for his birth and I was pushing, everyone did their best to motivate me by saying "c'mon baby ziggy" and "let's meet baby ziggy". cj was the funniest, with the line "come and meet your family, baby ziggy" just as his head was crowning (it was the timing, not the phrase, that made it funny).

once the baby was born we decided to stop calling him baby ziggy and have successfully prevented it from becoming his nickname. thank goodness.
